Episode 212: 2019 Entry Draft Preview

Posted on June 17, 2019

With the Stanley Cup playoffs over, it is time to look ahead to the NHL Entry Draft.  The last few drafts have seen the Flames top picks traded for veteran help on the blueline. Should the Flames trade their pick this year, or draft? We discuss some of our picks for who the Flames should target with their first round (#26) draft pick, and what type of player the Flames need to draft with their other picks.

As of this recording, the Flames have (and don’t have) the following draft picks:

  • Round 1 –#26 overall pick
  • Round 2 – No draft pick (pick #57 traded to New York Islanders in the Travis Hamonic deal)
  • Round 3 – #88 overall pick
  • Round 4 – Flames pick #119 traded to Montreal, but we have the #116 overall pick from the New York Islanders
  • Round 5 – #150 overall pick
  • Round 6 – No draft pick (traded to Carolina Hurricanes in the Eddie Lack trade)
  • Round 7 – Traded pick #212 to Ottawa in Nick Shore trade, but we have the #216 overall pick from Carolina Hurricanes in the Eddie Lack trade
